Notes
- When worming with EQUEST it is important to assess as accurately as possible the weight of your horse/pony as the therapeutic range is narrower than with other wormers.
- For advice on worming BREEDING AND YOUNGSTOCK, please contact the surgery.
- Worm ALL horses/ponies turned out together on the SAME DAY with the same product.
- All NEW HORSES/PONIES should be given a 5 day course of Panacur Equine Guard (at double dose) OR a dose of Equest (providing they are not underweight) and be stabled during and for 3 days after the course has finished. Horses in very poor condition should be seen by the vet as they may need pre medicating before worming.
- Tests (faecal egg count or blood sample) can be performed to estimate a horses roundworm or tapeworm burden. In this way you can target which horses may need different medication. This can save money and reduces the development of resistance to wormers.
The best way to keep your horses worm burden low is to turn out in small groups and pick up all droppings from the field twice a week.
